I am starting a new series on my channel called The Ali Series. It’s a series of layouts that I am doing for my niece Ali’s scrapbook. She will be graduating in a year so I need to get busy and get the book a little more up to date! I went to a crop with a few of my friends a couple weekends ago and was able to get 10 layouts done! All of them recorded…now on to the editing! 🙂
For the products in this layout, I used one of my most recent Hip Kits. Here’s the link:
Hi all! It’s been a while since I have posted on here. I hate leaving this site dormant knowing that I direct people here from my YouTube Channel. I have found lately (or probably longer than lately) that I really have so much creative inspiration and I don’t have enough time to make it happen. You know that thing that happens…when you want something, you can’t have it but once you get it, you don’t want it anymore? I feel like it’s a part of it. Seems like when I have a moment to sit and breath and not be stressed out about all of the things there is to do in a day, I lose my motivation to scrap. But all of the other time (which, let’s face it, it’s 99.99% of the time) I am so inspired to be at my scrap desk creating.
So let’s see, what have I been up to? I finished a couple series on my YouTube channel. One called “All About a Boy” and another called “30 Days of Thankful”. For the All About A Boy Series, I created 10 layouts that were all about my son Stephen! Here is the playlist to that and a couple photos from my favorite layouts.
The 30 days of thankful project was inspired by Cathy Zielske and her class 30 Days of Thankful . I purchased the smaller version because I only wanted the inspiration and less of the digital content. It inspired me enough to create 30 videos on my channel where I decorated a page a day in a traveler’s notebook. I really enjoyed the process of decorating in my traveler’s notebook. I guess it’s a cross between a 12 x 12 and project life. I like that I have a smaller canvas to work on. I feel less intimidated and more free with using embellishments on a page.
After that project, I focused on creating some layouts with my December/Winter/Christmas stash which I have started posting on my channel now. The playlist on my channel is called December Stash Busting and I am up to layout #6.
Since then, I started journaling again. It’s something I have done in many many years. It’s a long story and I plan to share a little of that in a post soon when I start sharing some of my journals. I have been using a traveler’s notebook to journal and it’s very artsy and almost like smash booking, but doesn’t have to be so some pages are mostly just journaling. For me, it’s really flexible and is less about telling a story of something that happened and more telling a story of right now. I also add lots of smaller, less life changing topics in my journal, but it’s all about what I am thinking in the moment or what is inspiring me at that moment.
I did finish December Daily and haven’t decided if I will do a flip through on my channel or just a blog post. I didn’t record the process for various reasons but it’s on my list of things “to do” as far as finding a way to share it.
On a personal note, I recently had back surgery and I am still recovering from that. It’s something I have needed to do for many years but I couldn’t wait any longer. I am also not sure that the fight with fixing my back is over. Only time will tell. I don’t currently have a series in the works for my channel and don’t know when I will start one up. I am going to play it by ear as it’s really important for me to heal right now.
Looking back at all of that, I am actually impressed with what I have accomplished scrappy/art wise. Sometimes it helps to write it down!
Hope you are all having a wonderful start to the New Year. Hopefully I will have another post out soon!
Hello! It’s been a bit since my last post. I have been so busy creating that sometimes I forget to write about it 🙂 This time I am coming to you with a layout that I created for sketch challenge over on the Creative Scrappers blog. Ever since I found their blog I get excited to see the next sketch and create a layout with it! I love working with sketches – I think it just kicks off the creative process!
For this layout, I used the September Hip Kits, a Clique Kits cut file from April 2016 and this sketch:
Here is what I came up with:
I absolutely loved creating with this sketch! I didn’t follow everything perfectly, but I think that is the beauty of working with a sketch. It’s a starting off point or a guide to help you create something beautiful!
There is a process video for this layout, but until those little fairies inside my computer start to work faster, I will have to add it to my scrappy to do list!
Hi All! I am excited to post this layout (even though I know I need to post for the other videos!). This is the last layout in my 3 x 4 card love series and I absolutely love it. I used my August Hip Kits to create this layout. The kits this month were amazing. They always come with a ton of coordinating stuff but what I found especially this month is that you could make so many different types of layouts from bright and colorful to soft and gorgeous. I made so many layouts with this kit and I believe I only have a couple sheets of paper left. Super proud of myself for using up this kit! Ok, back to the layout 🙂
I used mostly the new collections by Amy Tan (Oh Happy Life) and Dear Lizzy (Saturday). I also used a bit of the Cute Girl collection by Crate Paper. I love the way the layout turned out and I hope you do too!
Thanks for following me through this series. I have another one coming up shortly and I can’t wait!
I have a new layout for the monthly sketch challenge that Creative Scrappers has on their blog. I truly enjoyed making this page. It was probably one of the funnest layouts I have ever made. I used my Hip Kit for July, the sketch for Creative Scrappers and the awesome freebie cut file from The Cut Shoppe called Inner Circle.
I used the circles as the main embellishment focus. I backed it with pattern paper from the Hip Kit and went crazy on the embellishments from the kit. There are so many embellishments and products in the Hip Kits that they make it easy and freeing to do so!
For a couple of the embellishment clusters, I used the gold rub ons from Project life and the wood veneer from the Pink Paislee Fancy Free collection and placed the rub on directly on top of the wood veneer. I loved this! It made the wood veneer look like it designed that way! For the one with Smile and the camera, I just used the back side of one of the wood veneer circles in the pack.
Sometimes it’s just nice to turn the cameras and the bright lights off and just create a page with low stress 😉 I enjoy the Hip Kit weekly challenges and love it when I am actually able to participate! This week the challenge was to create a woven look on your layout. I started planning the layout before I even had a picture in mind!
Since the move of my scrapbook space, I found a spot for my Silhouette Cameo where I am able to use it whenever I feel like it. Nothing is blocking it and no need to take it out and find space for it on a table somewhere. I just love it! So I have been scoping out sights like The Cut Shoppe and Just Nick and purchasing some of my favorites. For today’s layout, I purchased two cut files from The Cut Shoppe. The strip with the word love is the Borderlines cut file and the rest are from the Washi Love cut file. I used both to create strips of paper with shapes cut out that I could back with pattern paper. From there, I picked my color scheme and started creating.
I used products from my July Hip Kit and I love the way it turned out. I used the Illustrated Faith Paper from Bella Blvd called Whatever is Lovely to back the cut files. The main sheet with the sun burst is from Simple Stories Sunshine and Happiness collection. I also used one small piece of Hip Kit paper from the July kit called The Happy Life by Kim Watson. I used the B side which is black with white messy dots. That is all the pattern paper I used on this layout! I did use a piece of white card stock to back the layout.
The embellishments consisted of a chipboard frame from Heidi Swapp; Hip Kit Exclusive puffy letters by Pinkfresh Studio; a wood veneer from Pink Paislee; and several die cut pieces from the Hip Kit exclusive products designed by Kim Watson for the July kits.
I loved playing with my kit and creating this page. I can’t wait to see what the next challenge is going to be!
Hi all! I have a layout share for a challenge I did for Creative Scrappers. I came to their site based on a search in Pinterest and saw that they were doing monthly challenges and this month included a free cut file from Just Nick. I have been in such a scrapping mood lately that I went ahead and joined in. Here is the layout I did for the challenge:
This was a lot of fun. I looked through some of the other sketches that are on the site and I may have to do this more often! I will get the process video up on My YouTube Channel as soon as I can edit and narrate!
Hi All! After my 1st series on My YouTube Channel I asked for feedback on a future series. I received a lot of ideas and so many that I hope to work on! Based on one of those suggestions, my next series will be around 3 x 4 cards. I, like many others, have a huge stash of these cute cards laying around and really need to put them to use. I do Project Life, but there is no way I can use up all of the cards I have…plus, they keep coming out with more and more MUST HAVE cards…what’s a girl to do?! So, I am starting a series on my channel where I am going to use up as many 3 x 4 cards as I can on 12 x 12 pages in various ways. There might be a lot of journal card usage and grid layouts, but I promise to use at least one on each page! I am keeping track of the total number of cards that I use. I am hoping to use up hundreds by the end of the series, but I am guessing it will be more around 30 LOL!
Here is the first layout in the series:
**sorry for the brightness of this layout…I guess I got a little cozy with my bright light 🙂
I really enjoyed the process and sharing the layouts for my Simple Stamping Series on My YouTube Channel. I have so many stamp sets that I believe it would be a huge benefit for me to do another series using stamps…more to come on that! My favorite stamps to use are definitely word stamps, which is why I think I gravitate towards Ali Edwards stamp sets. I am subscribed to her monthly Story Kits and stamp set. I am always so excited to see what amazing phrases will be on the latest stamp set 🙂
It’s been a while since I have updated the site, so here are the rest of the videos from Simple Stamping Series:
Layout #2: This layout was super fun. I used a monochromatic color scheme in orange. I played with watercolors and used stamping as a border around the photo.
Layout #3: Another monochromatic layout – this time in yellow. For this layout, I used stamping as a the title:
Layout #4: Again, monochromatic. This time in green…are you getting the theme here? This layout had less stamping than the other layouts, but I used a couple of heart stamps to compliment the embellishments.
Layout #5: This was my favorite layout of them all. This time the color scheme was blue. I used several stamps to create areas for embellishment.
Layout #6: The last layout was another monochromatic layout in the color…can you guess it?? Yes! Purple! I loved using purple on this layout. Especially the soft shade that I was able to find in the Kaiser Craft, My Year, My Story collection.
This was a really fun series and I received a lot of positive feedback on it so I hope to eventually do another one. For now…onto the next series!
Hi everyone! Now that my Use It or Lose It series is over I have started a new series on my channel called Simple Stamping. I have a series of layouts showcasing different ways you can add simple stamping to your page to help with the design or just give some interest and best of all, to get you to use your stamps! It has been a great exercise for me because I find myself pulling out my stamps much more often now on layouts that I have completed since doing the series.
The first layout in this series is a monochromatic layout in shades of pink and features my niece Ali on her 16th birthday. I use the stamps to create a boarder for the page. Here is the process video.
I am really excited about kicking this series off and hope you enjoy the process!
